In our pallet testing lab, you will find that we have highly specialized, but still versatile, pallet testing and design equipment focusing on various aspects of the unit load. We test corrugated, wood, metal, and plastic for serviceability as pallets and their components. We are an independent, certified pallet testing laboratory, staffed by highly-skilled, certified technicians who perform pallet tests in accordance with ASTM, TAPPI, ISO, ANSI standards and customized application methods developed in our laboratory for and/or by our clients. As part of the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design at Virginia Tech, the Packaging Materials Laboratory has the ability to conduct package material testing – on materials such as corrugated sheets and converted packaging, at various manufacturing stages. This will help to improve package performance in the supply chain while reducing costs and improving sustainability. Our services include standard packaging tests, as well as the ability to develop custom package tests and material tests to match your needs. The Primary Packaging Laboratory provides a diverse selection of primary package testing services as well as research and development projects designed specifically to meet the needs of the primary packaging industry. To ensure that all packages arrive to the customer without any damages, Amazon has partnered with the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) to develop a comprehensive pre-shipment testing program. As of August 1st, 2019, all of your company’s packages must pass these tests in order to avoid paying extra fines and fees to Amazon. Virginia Tech is certified to conduct all ISTA Amazon testing including: Project 6- Amazon – SCIO (A-G) and Project 6 – Over-boxing! Due to their extensive experience in distribution and protective packaging, our faculty and staff are also qualified to help improve your packaging so that it will pass the applicable Amazon testing!
