Bisha Receives IBPA Scholarship
graduate student lauded for achievements in industry

The International Beverage Packaging Association (IBPA) through the Richard F. Heaney Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jim Bisha, a graduate student in Wood Science and Forest Products at Virginia Tech. This scholarship, available to juniors, seniors, and graduate students in packaging curriculums, was based on grade point average overall and in packaging courses, financial need, extra curricular activities and a completed essay.

IBPA is a non-profit corporation solely dedicated to the exchange of information and education pertaining to the packaging industry through meetings and seminars. Their membership includes major brewers and beverage manufacturers, along with packaging machinery, equipment and material suppliers.

Bisha (Rochester, NY) is the first graduate student in the department studying packaging science. He received an undergraduate degree in packaging from the Rochester Institute of Technology (2005). While at RIT, he participated in study abroad programs through the University of Michigan to Japan, England, and Spain to gain an understanding of the similarities and differences in packaging and distribution within different countries. Because of the Center for Unit Load Design’s world renowned reputation for their studies in distribution, Bisha decided to pursue his graduate education at Virginia Tech. In his professional career, Bisha hopes to address the challenges faced by the United States with the onslaught of globalization by streamlining the transportation and handling of goods.
